Happy Saturday!

Happy Saturday!

Two colorful notebooks and a binder fanned out on a wooden surface.

Saturday for me is a home work day, meaning anything I need to do at home, I can get most of that done today. (Tomorrow is my Sabbath/rest day, so I chill and do what makes me happy. It’s the day I allow myself to get recharged for the following week).

Today I got to take some time to work on what I call “ADHD work”. What I mean by that is that since I struggle with time management/organization – like many ADHDers – I’ve been working on creating a system for myself to help me get a better handle on that. For many years I’ve struggled. I’ve cried and prayed, feeling like I still couldn’t get tasks completed, time managed, etc., into my 40’s. That’s not a great feeling.

Over the past c. 2 years, I’ve been learning a lot about ADHD and about myself, regarding how my brain works best and what systems might work best for me. I’ve tried GTD (Getting Things Done); I saw a therapist who specialized in ADHD; I hired an ADHD coach. I learned good stuff from all of these resources and people. But I found myself after each still struggling. I needed to take what I’d learned about ADHD and about ME, and take my time to slowly and patiently figure it out.

So that’s what I’m doing! And today, I got to work on that. I got a binder, and I put things I’ve learned in there, and I’m beginning to experiment. It feels good and it’s encouraging. Remember, as you learn about new things in your life, especially as you learn about how YOU work, be patient. Be flexible. Speak kind words to yourself. Try one way, then try another. Throughout the process we keep learning more and more, until we find what fits.

I’ll keep you guys posted and, when I feel strong in this area, I will offer the stuff I’ve learned to help others like me (or people who want to try another strategy) who want to feel in control of what they are responsible for, and feel accomplished by the end of the day.

Love y’all,
Regina

Moving BEYOND…together.
